22 CRC

History of the CRC:

The first "CRC" was held at the Victorian Commonwealth Laboratory in 1962. Originally set up as a meeting for residue chemists to exchange ideas it transformed into a Biennial event. Back in the early 60s, analysis of residues was in it's infancy with gas chromatography only starting to be adopted in the mid-60s. In 1962 the common technique for DDT analysis was paper chromatography! The CRCs from the 60s were specifically for Government employees and was set up as an information session and a way of disseminating new analytical techniques.

The conference was held at the Victorian Commonwealth Laboratories every 2 years until 1974. The 1976 conference was in Perth and subsequent conferences were held alternately in capital cities around Australia (and the 20th held in New Zealand). By 1983, the CRC became a commercial venture with delegates charged a fee for attendance. The conference returns to Sydney after a lengthy break - the last conference at Macquarie University in 1991. The CRC relies heavily on volunteers from the chemical residue community giving their valuable time to host and organize the event every 2 years. A number of instrument companies have supported the CRC for decades and the conference continues to attract high quality speakers from Australia and around the world. Here is a chronology of the CRC:
